Ambitious, Vivacious, Courageous, Unforgettable
Those are just a few words that described Tyler Strandberg best.
An active lifestyle and love of the mountains drew Tyler out to Jackson, Wyoming after graduating college from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2009. Jackson quickly became home for Tyler, finding it was her place of comfort, solitude, and adventure all wrapped into one. She ran, skied, biked and hiked nearly all of the terrain and jagged peaks of the Teton Mountain Range, rarely embarking on any adventures without the companionship of her sweet pugador Milly. When she wasn’t in the backcountry, Tyler spent most of her days with her kids at C-V Ranch, a residential treatment facility serving students from across the state of Wyoming. It was here where Tyler was able to exude her true passion of helping children and changing their lives for the better.
In 2015, the unthinkable happened. Tyler Strandberg, along with her very good friend and C-V Ranch co-worker Catherine Nix, died in a hiking accident leaving family and friends of Tyler and Catherine’s with an unbearable loss.
After the accident, Tyler’s family quickly began to realize the unbounded impact that Tyler had not only left on them, but on everyone she had crossed paths with. They realized that Tyler’s impact had spread far beyond what they could have ever imagined, receiving an overwhelming outpouring of love, support, and stories from close friends, acquaintances, and complete strangers. The countless stories from friends and strangers near and far showed the legacy that Tyler had left behind and the many lives that she had touched through her strength, humor, and selflessness. She thrived in environments that challenged pushed her to be better, which transcended into how she treated others to always do the same. With her courageous and ambitious soul, Tyler truly embodied her favorite line from a song reading “I’d rather be a sparrow than a snail”.
It is Tyler’s family’s hope to continue to spread Tyler’s legacy through helping others, living every day to the fullest, and encouraging yourself and the loved ones in your life to always do the same.
